Sept. 5. At LSU. 7:30 p.m. on ABC. That is the opener, and it requires no analysis beyond the plain facts. The Tigers finished last season 7-6 after dropping the LSU loss 17-10 in a game that set the tone for a year nobody in Clemson wants to repeat. Swinney has spent the last nine months rebuilding around the transfer portal and a recruiting class that has to deliver. The trip back to Baton Rouge is where that work gets its first real audit.
The home opener two weeks later looks simpler. Georgia Southern comes to Death Valley on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. on ACC Network. The Eagles are not pushovers. But this is still a non-conference home game Clemson is expected to control, and the Tigers need to do exactly that before the schedule tightens.
Then things get real very fast. North Carolina visits Clemson on Saturday, Sept. 19, for a noon kick on ESPN. That is the first ACC game that counts, and it arrives before the third Saturday of the season.
