Clemson softball enters the 2026 season with national expectations firmly attached, opening the year ranked inside the Top 15 across every major preseason poll and positioned as one of the most complete teams in the country.
The Tigers appeared in the upper tier of all four primary national rankings, checking in at No. 13 in the NFCA GoRout Division I Coaches Poll, No. 12 in the ESPN USA Softball poll, No. 9 according to Softball America, and No. 15 in the D1Softball preseason rankings. Appearing across all four lists highlights the bar Clemson softball is set at as the season approaches and reaffirms how last year’s success has translated into sustained national respect.

Those rankings are due to a 2025 season that marked a turning point for the program. Clemson softball finished 48-14 overall and claimed its first ACC Tournament championship, rallying late to defeat Florida State in the title game. The Tigers carried that momentum into the NCAA Tournament, where they defended home turf at McWhorter Stadium to win the Clemson Regional before advancing to the Super Regional round.
Unlike many teams that experience postseason breakthroughs, Clemson softball did not lose the core of its roster in the offseason. Thirteen players return from last year’s squad, giving the Tigers a rare mix of continuity and experience heading into opening weekend. Four of those returners earned NFCA All-Region recognition: Jamison Brockenbrough, Julia Knowler, Macey Cintron, and Marian Collins, forming a solid foundation across the lineup and pitching staff.
Cintron enters the season with particularly high expectations after a standout sophomore campaign that placed her among the most decorated players in the country during the preseason award cycle. Alongside her, Clemson brings back several players who were central to its ACC Tournament run. Kylee Johnson returns after delivering a two-run homer that swung the conference championship game, while Taylor Pipkins is back after earning ACC Tournament MVP honors following a dominant postseason performance.

Depth remains one of Clemson’s defining strengths. Kennedy Ariail, Riley Burton, Olivia Duncan, Riley Fennell, Madi Lardizabal, Sam Minish, and Ava Wilson all return, providing flexibility throughout the lineup and defensive stability across multiple positions. That returning depth allows Clemson to avoid relying heavily on any single player as the season unfolds.
The Tigers also addressed specific roster needs through the transfer portal, adding four experienced players who bring production from multiple conferences. Graduate transfer Abby Dunning arrives from Boston College, while Sierra Maness, Kiley Channell, and Corri Hicks join the program after stops at USC Upstate, Florida Atlantic, and Oklahoma. Each transfer adds veteran presence to a roster already built around postseason-tested contributors.
Clemson’s incoming freshman class adds another layer of intrigue to the mixer. Sarah Breaux, Keira Crosby, Lexie Hames, and Mac Pavese were all named to national Freshman Watch Lists before the season, signaling expectations for early contributions. They are joined by Sophia Burmeister, Sarah Rocheleau, and Maddie Johnson, who round out a group that offers both immediate impact potential and long-term depth to the Tigers.

Nationally, Clemson opens the season surrounded by elite company. Texas sits atop the Coaches Poll after winning the Women’s College World Series, followed closely by Texas Tech and Oklahoma. The SEC and Big 12 again dominate the top of the rankings, but Clemson’s presence inside the Top 15 reflects its growing place among the sport’s national contenders.
Within the ACC, Clemson is one of five teams ranked in the preseason Top 25 and enters the season as the league’s second-highest-ranked program behind Florida State. Stanford, Virginia Tech, and Duke also appear in the rankings, while Virginia sits just outside the Top 25 after receiving votes. The conference depth adds another layer of difficulty to Clemson’s schedule once league play begins.
Before conference competition arrives, Clemson will be tested immediately at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida. The Tigers open the season against Southeastern Louisiana and are also scheduled to face Oregon, Liberty, Auburn, and Michigan State during the weekend. The early slate provides Clemson with multiple opportunities to measure itself against teams receiving votes and ranked opponents before returning home.

With national recognition across every major poll, a roster built on experience, and momentum from a historic season, Clemson enters 2026 no longer chasing validation. The preseason rankings reflect a program that has moved from breakthrough to expectation, with the Tigers now tasked with proving they belong among the sport’s elite once again.
