Game Feed vs Winthrop

A good play by Maddie Moore at short on a throw over to first baseman Grace Hiller, but the call on the field would be overturned. After a steal of second, Brooke McCubbin would force a couple of pop-outs and then get another ground out to second baseman Alex Brown for out number 3.

B1

A solid hit by Moore in the leadoff spot to third would be fielded well by Jackson and the first out would be recorded for the Tigers in the home half. Brown would fly out to center fielder VanHouse for out number two, and Clark would pop out on an attempted bunt to catcher Martin to end the inning.

A couple of quick groundouts, one to third baseman Alia Logoleo and the other McCubbin, would secure two quick outs against the Eagles. Left fielder Rivas would then draw a walk from McCubbin on a 3-2 count to get Winthrop a 2-out base runner. On a 3-2 count to Buckner, she'd hit a ball to Moore who would then overthrow Hiller at first. This would put runners on the corners. Right fielder Rivas, sister of the left fielder, would then pop out to Clark, making another long run to make another athletic catch, would end the threat.

Julia Knowler would strikeout, and Logoleo would ground out to short. Right fielder Lindsey Garcia would be up, and punch a ball over the second baseman’s head to get a single and the Tigers’ first hit of the game. Hiller would ground out to short, and Garcia is stranded at first.

 

Winthrop - 0

T3

The top of the order would start off the third for the Eagles. VanHouse grounds out to Brown on one pitch, however, for the first out. Another ground ball to McCubbin would get the second out. A tough fly ball from Jackson would put Brown on the run to shallow right, and she’d make the catch. 1-2-3 for Winthrop in the 3rd.

B3

Jojo Hyatt in the eight spot would take the plate for the first batter of the Clemson third. She’d work the count before hitting a line drive to right field and the base hit.

Left fielder Arielle Oda would then push a ground ball passed the short stop into the grass to get two runners on base with no outs. Maddie Moore would then have a chance to cash in.

Moore would strike out, however, for the first Clemson out. Brown would deliver on a fielder’s choice however, with Coach John Rittman opting to challenge the call of out on the field. The call would stand, however, and the Tigers would have runners on first and third with two outs.

Clark would strike out, however, and Clemson would come up empty headed to the fourth.

McCubbin would start strong, striking out cleanup hitter Temple for the first out, followed by a strikeout looking by Powell for out number two. Lee would get a good ground ball just passed a diving Brown into right field, and the Eagles would get another 2-out base runner. McCubbin would get a swinging Rivas for a third strikeout, however, and end the top half of the fourth with still no damage done.

B4

Julia Knowler would take the first pitch of the inning out to the gap in right center for a single and get Clemson a base runner in the fourth. Bomhardt would pinch run for Knowler, giving the Tigers some speed on the base paths. Logoleo would pop out to shallow center, which would bring up Garcia who would hit a base hit to right for the Tigers' fifth hit of the night. Hiller would strike out, however, giving Basinger her fourth K of the game. Hyatt would now have a chance to bring in a run with a base hit.

She'd take a walk instead, putting the heat on with two outs for Oda. On a full count, Oda would hit a slapper to the pitcher. She would overthrow the first baseman, however, allowing both Bomhardt and Garcia to score and finally break it open. Maddie Moore would deliver two more runs with a single up the middle, making the score 4-0 Tigers with two outs in the fourth. Moore would immediately steal second and then advance to third on a wild pitch.

On a full count and a runner on third, Alex Brown would hit the ball back to Basinger who would not overthrow first base this time. The fourth would be over.

McCubbin would continue to pitch headed into the fifth inning. She'd force Eagle short stop Buckner into a fly out to Oda in left field for the first out. Right fielder Rivas would ground out to Brown at second for out number two, but VanHouse would ground a ball to Hiller at first who would juggle the ball and miss the tag for the second Tiger error. Basinger would fly out to Garcia in right, though, to end the top of the fifth.
