The silence across the Upstate has officially been replaced by the roar of Week 0, and as we establish our initial power rankings for the campaign, we are using the official ACC Preseason Media Poll as our baseline for uniformity. The media scribes have handed our Tigers all the ammunition needed to ignite a championship crusade. Despite bringing back elite wideouts Bryant Wesco Jr. and TJ Moore, adding 10 impact transfers, and re-tooling under a re-energized coaching staff, Clemson sits at No. 4 in the conference hierarchy behind Miami, SMU, and Louisville.
Head coach Dabo Swinney isn’t losing sleep over where the voters placed the program to open the fall. “We don’t have the same NIL budget as some places have,” Swinney noted heading into fall camp. “But guess what? We never have. But you know what we do have? We have enough. We got enough. We just have to be good with what we have.”
THE ACC CONTENDERS: THE TOP TIER
1. Miami Hurricanes Fresh off a national runner-up finish, Mario Cristobal’s squad takes the top spot behind Duke transfer quarterback Darian Mensah and an NFL-caliber defense. They are the consensus media darlings, but the target on their back is massive.
2. SMU Mustangs Rhett Lashlee brings back electric signal-caller Kevin Jennings to anchor an explosive offense. However, with only four returning defensive starters, the Mustangs are living on thin ice at the line of scrimmage.
3. Louisville Cardinals Jeff Brohm reloaded with Ohio State transfer quarterback Lincoln Kienholz and healthy star running back Isaac Brown. Their Sept. 19 clash against SMU will prove if their top-tier standing holds water.
4. Clemson Tigers Voted fourth despite collecting seven first-place votes, our Tigers enter 2026 with an almighty chip on their shoulder. With Christopher Vizzina taking the reins at quarterback and a portal-boosted defense itching to hit, the Orange and White pride is primed to crash Charlotte. Swinney summed up the mindset perfectly: “Just a bunch of nobodies, man, trying to be somebody and try to take Clemson back to the top.”
THE MIDDLE PACK: BOWL BOUND AND BATTLE-TESTED
5. Virginia Tech Hokies New head coach James Franklin brings immediate credibility to Blacksburg, reuniting with Penn State transfer quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer.
6. Virginia Cavaliers Tony Elliott surprised the nation with an 11-win campaign last fall. Behind quarterback Beau Pribula and a veteran offensive line, the Wahoos remain dangerous.
7. Pittsburgh Panthers Pat Narduzzi relies on rising star quarterback Mason Heintschel to steady an offense undergoing a wide receiver rebuild.
8. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Brent Key’s squad faces one of the nastiest schedules in the country, but their physicality makes them a threat to anyone.
9. NC State Wolfpack Dave Doeren’s group features typical defensive toughness, though offensive consistency will dictate their ceiling.
10. Duke Blue Devils After losing Mensah to Miami, Duke relies on a re-tooled backfield to stay in the upper half of the league.
THE BOTTOM TIER: WORK TO BE DONE
11. Florida State Seminoles Picked 11th after a grueling slide, Mike Norvell’s team faces a daunting non-conference slate featuring Alabama and Florida.
12. California Golden Bears Tosh Lupoi brings sophomore quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele into their second ACC season, hosting our Tigers in a historic Friday night showdown in Berkeley.
13. Wake Forest Demon Deacons Dave Clawson continues to operate with a slow-mesh offense that requires young skill players to step up quickly.
14. Syracuse Orange Fran Brown’s secondary is stout, but physical depth across the trenches remains a major concern.
15. North Carolina Tar Heels Mack Brown’s squad enters a complete transitional phase with major holes to plug on defense.
16. Boston College Eagles Bill O’Brien’s offensive identity will be tested early in a deep, tough conference.
17. Stanford Cardinal After picking up just 483 total points in the poll, Stanford sits at the bottom looking up.
