Cade Klubnik emotional after his final home game, praises fans, culture
With the transfer portal ushering in a new era of college football, the career arc we saw out of Klubnik has become a rarity, rather than the assumption. Cade came into Clemson as a freshman, sat for a season, struggled his sophomore year, then came into his own and produced two reliable seasons at quarterback.
"It was just in the moment. as far as…let's get #2 out of there" – Coach Swinney on the Cade Klubnik curtain call.

Players like Cade show why the portal has ruined one of the greatest aspects of college football. The beauty of college football is seeing players develop and learn, and shape into the stars they become. When you follow Cade through his entire career, there’s a certain payoff when he comes into form. You feel more like you’re a part of it, because you were along for the ride throughout the entire journey.
Seeing the crowds apreication for Klubnik was powerful, and that moment meant even more to Cade than it did the fans:
“I don’t even have words to describe it. I feel like I’ve just gave everything I have in these last four years, and there’s been so many great moments and tough moments, but the support from everybody has been amazing. Appreciate everybody for showing up, it was surprising how loud the crowd was. It just brought me to tears.”
Playing just about a quarter of the game, Cade went 9/15 for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Klubnik became the sixth quarterback in Clemson history to win 25 games. He’s one of three players ever to win multiple ACC Championship MVP’s. He was a William Campbell semifinalist in 2024, and is now part of an iconic list of recent Clemson quarterbacks.
“I just wanted to leave (Clemson) better off than when I got here, and I feel like i’ve done that.”
While he did not meet the lofty expectations he earned going into the season, Cade left this program better off. The DJ years were a disaster, and it truly felt like the end of this program. Klubnik brought the Tigers two conference championships, and a playoff appearance. It’s painful to see him play his final game in the Valley, but it’ll be exciting to see Klubnik in his final two games as a Clemson Tiger.
