Ian Schieffelin Arrested on Suspicion of DUI

This past weekend, Clemson tight end Ian Schieffelin was arrested on suspicion of a DUI, according to reports from the team. Dabo has already said that Chef will face some form of suspension heading into the season, highlighting his distaste for Ian’s poor decision making: “We are aware of Ian Schieffelin’s arrest on suspicion of DUI. Clemson Athletics has a clear policy by which we will abide, so Ian will miss some competition to start this season as a consequence. We’re obviously very disappointed by the situation, but we are very thankful no others were involved and no one was hurt.” As of right now, no additional information on the arrest has been reported.

While the exact length of the suspension is unknown, Schieffelin will miss the season opener between 6th ranked Clemson and 9th ranked LSU in Death Valley on August 30th. According to Clemson’s athlete handbook, a player with a DUI will be “withheld immediately from not less than the next 10% of their intercollegiate competitions.” Additionally, within seven days Dabo Swinney will announce any further disciplinary action, if needed.

With Jake Briningstool headed to the NFL, Clemson’s tight end room opened up, giving Chef an opportunity to contribute this season. After four seasons as a star power forward for the men’s basketball team, Schieffelin announced last April his intention to play football in the fall; “Dabo just walked me through the opportunity he was willing to give me, and it all sounded great, something I wanted to jump on. It really just sparked my interest in wanting to try, and being able to put on a Clemson jersey again was very enticing to me. To be able to be coached by Dabo and [tight ends coach Kyle] Richardson is just a huge opportunity I couldn’t pass up.” He opened his first presser this season stating his love for Clemson and excitement about the upcoming season: “It’s an honor to be back in front of y’all. Clemson’s been a home for four years, and it’s an honor to be able to put on the Clemson paw again.”

He was not likely to contribute immediately, and with the arrest we’ll have to wait a while before seeing Chef in uniform. Hopefully as time passes Schieffelin can find his way out of trouble and back onto the field.
