Clemson’s Transfer Portal Put Into Use After Early NCAA Regional Exit

Changes began just days following Clemson’s early departure from the NCAA regionals, with the team already making use of the transfer portal.

The Tigers are set to lose several key contributors, highlighted by Cam Cannarella, a projected first-round pick in the upcoming MLB Draft.

Among the seniors who are ineligible to return are Dominic Listi, who was second on the team in batting average; Lucas Mahlstedt, who ranked second nationally in saves; and veterans Andrew Ciufo, Josh Paino, Reed Garris, and B.J. Bailey.

Clemson has already seen losses to the transfer portal, with four players on the move. Leading the group is junior pitcher Ethan Darden.

Darden went 4-2 with a 6.08 ERA over nine appearances in 2025 before a tricep injury in April ended his season. Over three years at Clemson, Darden made 47 appearances (32 starts), finishing with a 12-9 record and a 5.50 ERA.

Freshman pitcher Chance Kieck joined the party on Tuesday. Kieck posted a 9.75 ERA in 12 innings for the Tigers.

Also entering the portal are sophomore Luke Brown, who appeared in five games this season, and redshirt freshman Jackson Cole.

On the plus side, the Tigers landed former Alabama pitcher Ariston Veasey on Tuesday. The junior from Fayetteville, Georgia, appeared in five games this season, posting a 9.82 ERA over 3.2 innings pitched.

Head coach Erik Bakich has made it clear he intends to capitalize on the transfer portal this offseason, stressing the need for more “good players” to stay competitive.

With plenty of work ahead before the season begins in February, the Tigers appear to be wasting no time getting started.
