Clemson’s softball team secured a solid 6-2 win against Georgia Tech on Friday night, pushing their record to 38-12 (16-5 ACC). Behind clutch hitting and a stellar pitching performance from Reese Basinger, the Tigers took control of the game and set the tone for the weekend series. Georgia Tech fell to 26-18 (10-8 ACC) after the loss.
Power at the Plate
Clemson’s offense found its rhythm early, highlighted by solo home runs from Maddie Moore and Kylee Johnson, and a bases-clearing double by Taylor Pipkins. Moore and Aby Vieira contributed two hits each, continuing their impressive seasons with 22 and 15 multi-hit games, respectively. Contributions came from across the lineup, with senior Alex Brown and sophomore Julia Knowler working two walks apiece.
The Tigers’ ability to outhit the Yellow Jackets 8-6 showcased their consistent approach. Pipkins’ three RBIs were crucial in capitalizing on scoring opportunities, anchoring Clemson’s effort to pull away in the middle innings.

Basinger in Command
Reese Basinger delivered a composed performance on the mound, throwing her 10th complete game of the season. Over seven innings, she allowed only five hits and struck out three batters, needing just 77 pitches to get the job done. Her efficiency was evident, especially in the first inning when she worked out of a two-on, one-out jam with a double play started by Brown at third base.
Key Moments
Second Inning: Georgia Tech struck first with a two-out solo home run. Basinger, however, quickly settled in, retiring the next batter to prevent further damage.
Third Inning: Maddie Moore answered for Clemson with a solo shot deep into the trees over the center field wall, tying the game at 1-1. Knowler’s patient 11-pitch walk and Macey Cintron’s single put pressure on Georgia Tech, but the inning ended with a foul-out.
Fourth Inning: Marian Collins started the Tigers’ rally with a double off the wall. Pinch-runner Kennedy Ariail advanced to third on a groundout before Johnson stepped up and crushed a two-run homer to left field, giving Clemson a 3-1 lead.
Fifth Inning: Clemson blew the game open when three consecutive walks loaded the bases for Pipkins. The freshman delivered with a double into the left-center gap, clearing the bases and extending the lead to 6-1.
Final Push
Georgia Tech made a late push in the seventh, scoring once and putting two runners on with two outs. After a brief meeting on the mound, Basinger sealed the win by inducing a foul pop fly down the left field line.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers return to McWhorter Stadium on Saturday, April 26, for the second game of the series against Georgia Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will air on ACC Network. With postseason play on the horizon, Clemson is focused on maintaining momentum and solidifying their position in the ACC standings.
This win highlighted Clemson’s ability to deliver in critical moments, combining offensive firepower and steady pitching to secure the victory.
