Clemson’s Receiving Core Highlights Leadership Throughout Spring Practice

Last season, Clemson became the first power five school since 2000 to feature multiple freshman receivers with over 650 yards. TJ Moore and Bryant Wesco combined for over 1300 yards and 10 touchdowns, and are excited to work on their craft this spring through the guidance of veterans on the roster:

“Having (Tyler Brown and Antonio Williams) as leaders is good because they play the slot, and as of right now I’m trying to learn outside and the slot so I get to watch them every day at practice. They’re good role models and good examples.”

Last season, Moore spent a majority of his snaps as an “X” receiver. At 6’3 and 200 pounds, the sophomore has a frame and skillset more akin to the outside position. However, Garret Riley has always prioritized versatility, and it’ll be exciting to see what Moore is able to do in any alignment next season.

When asked about the leadership he’s received from older members of the roster, Wesco praised the lead by example nature of his teammates, and how they’ve helped him avoid any issues they faced throughout their second season: “I guess it mainly stays towards trying to stay healthy and trying to stay on the field as much as possible. Just staying in the habit of working how I was my freshman year. Like I got something to prove”

While his mentality has not changed, Wesco’s blueprint to success has shifted this offseason: “Last year during the spring I’m just trying to learn the plays. Learn formations, coverages, just trying to get initiated into the offense. This year I got that confidence that I know the plays, know what’s going to happen when they call the plays. Now I’m just trying to work on adding some sauce to my game, just being more confident than I was last spring.”

Coming off an ankle injury, Tyler Brown looks to build off his All-American season in 2023 heading into his junior year. When asked about what the guidance of Antonio Williams has meant to his development, Brown excitedly raved about what the veteran receiver has done for him in terms of preparation. “I just feel like we’re almost going on the same path. Freshman All-American year, having that slump sophomore year whether it’s just injuries or not feeling the best. I just feel like he’s a good role model since he just popped back out in his third year.”

With such an electric collection of young talent and established veterans, Clemson is poised for an elite season at the wide receiver position.
