Clemson women’s lacrosse takes down highest ranked opponent in program history

No. 17 Clemson women’s lacrosse rallied to take down No. 11 Notre Dame, 12-11 on Saturday, marking the highest ranked victory in program history. Clemson won the contest on the road, making the ranked victory even more impressive.

The Tigers were down 8-7, after a barrage of 4 Notre Dame goals eliminated the lead which Clemson worked to produce through the early stages of the matchup. Kayla Macleod came through in the third period in order to tie it up at 8 each, where it then became a back-and-forth affair.

Clemson ultimately scored the game-winning goal with just over a minute left in action, when Natalie Shurtleff netted the go-ahead goal. The Tigers were able to keep Notre Dame off the board in the final minute to secure the victory.

The Tigers got off to a hot start, building an immediate 3-0 lead, thanks to goals by Shurtleff, Lindsey Marshall, and Katie Castiello. However, Notre Dame was able to settle in as the match continued.

Throughout the match, the Tigers used the eight-meter extremely well, scoring seven of their 12 goals from free position opportunities.

Clemson will be back in action on Saturday, March 1st, when they take on another ACC opponent in Syracuse on the road.
