Legendary Announcer Dick Vitale, 85, Excited for Return at Clemson

In the words of Dick Vitale, “It’s awesome, baby!”

The legendary college basketball commentator has been sidelined for almost two years during a public battle with cancer near his vocal cords. After the all-clear from his doctors, and another temporary setback, the legendary Vitale is set to make his long-awaited comeback at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum when the Tigers host the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday, February 8.

Dike Vitale, 85, known lovingly as Dickie V, has battled multiple ailments over the past several years and was diagnosed with a recurrence of lymphoma near his vocal cords and underwent radiation treatments which rendered him unable to speak. He was declared cancer free for the fourth time on December 13 and his voice recovered after a grueling treatment regimen.

Saturday will mark a triumphant return for Vitale who has delighted fans with his animated game calls for over 40 years. Clemson basketball fans should give him a rousing ovation when the Tigers and Blue Devils, the top two teams in the ACC standings, take the court at 6 p.m.
