While Clemson’s defensive class for 2025 is still elite and has an intense amount of depth, Coach Nick Eason and DC Wes Goodwin lost out on a highly touted recruit from the class this past Sunday.
Bryce Davis, the No. 59 overall prospect in the country, has flipped his commitment from Clemson to Duke after just a month.
Davis’ recruitment story has been all over the place this past summer, receiving back-and-forth crystal ball predictions between Clemson and Duke within the past two months.
Initially, it looked like Georgia was the front-runner to get the top-10 defensive lineman. However, a week and a half before his commitment, two Clemson insiders for 247Sports, Austin Hannon and Cory Fravel, crystal-balled Davis to commit to Clemson. Not only did Clemson insiders crystal-ball Davis to Clemson, but even Georgia insiders Kipp Adams and Benjamin Wolk did as well.

This wasn’t extremely surprising as he took two unofficial visits to the University in 2023 and an official visit back in May of this year.
The North Carolina native committed to Clemson on July 20 of this year, but it still seemed like competition remained as Anna Adams, a 247Sports recruiting analyst, crystal-balled him to Duke the day of his commitment. While most were satisfied with the commitment outcome, it’s a different era of College Football now; it feels like some players are never fully committed until they put pen to paper on National Signing Day.
With this being said, Davis then received a crystal ball prediction to Duke from 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Tom Loy on Friday and Duke Insider Adam Rowe on Saturday, which obviously came to fruition today.
