The third Clemson basketball player has entered the transfer portal 13 days removed from their final game in the Elite Eight.
Clemson forward RJ Godfrey entered the transfer portal on Friday morning, joining Jack Clark and Joshua Beadle as the third player to look for a new team next season.
Generally the first guy off the bench for the Tigers, Godfrey averaged 6.1 points per game and 3.4 rebounds a night for the team, being the team’s “spark plug” of the rotation.
The sophomore looks to cash in with a school following a huge NCAA Tournament, where he averaged 8.3 points per game. His shining moment in the Big Dance was in Clemson’s second-round matchup against Baylor, where the forward sank two key free throws to put the game out of hand and help the Tigers advance to the Sweet 16.
The move comes as a surprise to Clemson, who lose key front court players such as PJ Hall, who has not made a decision yet on his future but looks to the NBA Draft in the offseason. A player who would see more minutes next season, Godfrey was expected aptly given to move into a starting role in the rotation.
Without the Georgia native on the squad, Clemson will look to fill the sophomore’s spot in the transfer portal next season, who have already lost three players in last season’s rotation to it.
