Furman pitcher Lauralee Scott threw a complete game on Tuesday night giving Furman a surprise victory over Clemson. She was able to out-duel Valerie Cagle who only went two innings giving up two runs. Cagle was replaced by Millie Thompson after the 2nd with the team down 2-0. Thompson gave up two runs on one hit the rest of the way. The win brought Furman to .500 on the season. Millie Thompson was credited with the loss.
The problem for Clemson wasn’t the pitching it was hitting. Clemson could not score enough runs off Lauralee Scott. The Clemson Softball team left 10 runners stranded on base Tuesday night. Lauralee Scott gave Clemson their opportunities allowing 6 walks while only striking out 2. McKenzie Clark scored two runs for the Tigers. Lindsay Garcia scored the other. The runs were driven in by Lindsey Garcia, Alia Logoleo, and Arielle Oda. They each were responsible for 1 run driven in.
This was a huge upset and a big win for the Furman Paladins in this midweek game. So much so Furman Softball was taking pictures on the field after the game. Of course midweek games are always unpredictable given the fact that softball is a game where the lesser team is more likely to win one out of every three. Clemson will try to rebound and take a three game set in Syracuse starting Friday.
