No. 8 Clemson Crushes Manhattan in Seven-Innings

On a crisp Tuesday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium the No. 8 Clemson Tigers battled the Manhattan Jaspers in what was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

The Tigers, who had been on a streak with nine consecutive victories, continued their winning ways as they roared to a thumping 13-1 victory over the Jaspers. With this win, the Tigers further bolstered their impressive record to 14-1, while the Jaspers stumbled to a disappointing 4-10.

The game kicked off with Jacob Hinderleider grounding a two-out, run-scoring single in the first inning, setting the tone for the rest of the match. This was just the beginning of a relentless onslaught by the Tigers, who went on to plate five runs in the second inning alone. This offensive surge was highlighted by Cam Cannarella’s two-run single and Tristan Bissetta’s two-out, run-scoring single — a testament to the Tigers’ potent batting lineup.

In the fourth inning, Nathan Hall demonstrated his composure under pressure as he walked with the bases loaded. However, it was Blake Wright who stole the limelight. Leading Clemson’s 10-hit attack with three hits, Wright belted a two-run homer, his fifth of the year, in the fifth inning. Not one to rest on his laurels, Bissetta added to the Jasper’s misery by ripping a run-scoring double later in the frame.

Manhattan managed to score a solitary run in the top of the sixth inning on Dylan Mayer’s two-out single, but the hope was short-lived. Clemson retaliated with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a passed ball, an error, and a run-scoring single by Hinderleider, effectively shutting down any potential comeback from the Jaspers.

On the pitching front, Drew Titsworth delivered a masterclass. Pitching 1.1 hitless and scoreless innings in relief, Titsworth earned the win, further cementing his reputation as a reliable pitcher in crucial moments. On the other end of the spectrum, Jasper starter Joseph Duffield (0-3) suffered the loss, struggling against the ruthless Clemson batting lineup.

The game ended in the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule, leaving the Manhattan Jaspers reeling and the Clemson Tigers celebrating yet another victory. The two-game midweek series concludes Wednesday at 4 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
