Clemson Continues Winning Streak in Tiger Invitational

Clemson’s Victory at Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Millie Thompson led No. 10/11 Clemson (15-6) to a 7-2 victory over Mercer in the Clemson Invitational. Thompson pitched 5.0 strong innings, striking out eight batters without allowing a walk or an earned run. Aby Vieira, Valerie Cagle, and Maddie Moore powered the Tiger offense.

Offensive Highlights

Thompson secured her 40th career win while striking out eight batters without conceding a walk for the fourth time in her career. The Tigers recorded a pair of triples in the first two innings, a feat accomplished for the fourth time in a single game and the first since Feb. 17, 2022.

Game Recap

Mercer took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Tigers responded swiftly, taking a 3-1 lead after the first inning. Clemson extended the lead to 5-1 in the second inning before Mercer added one run in the third. Moore’s fifth-inning homer and subsequent runs sealed the victory for the Tigers.

Next Game

The Tigers will face Longwood tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. as part of the Tiger Invitational. Games can be watched live on ACCNX, and tickets are available online and at the gate on gameday.

Due to inclement weather projected for Saturday morning, the Tiger Invitational schedule has been adjusted. Action will now begin at 1 p.m. with a matchup between Fordham and Minnesota. Clemson’s game time remains at 6 p.m.
