Early Challenges and Strong Response

Cagle’s Heroics and Defensive Stand

Valerie Cagle’s remarkable performance extended beyond the plate, as she delivered only four pitches in the second inning to retire NC State’s hitters, supported by clutch defensive plays. Her offensive prowess continued with a three-run homer, propelling Clemson to its first lead of the day.

Back-and-Forth Battle

The game witnessed a seesaw battle, with NC State responding in the third inning to reclaim the lead, only for Clemson to surge ahead again in the fourth inning, courtesy of key hits by Aby Vieira and Maddie Moore.

Pitching Performance

Valerie Cagle showcased her versatility by starting in her second consecutive game and pitching 2.1 innings before being replaced by senior Regan Spencer. Spencer’s stellar performance, including two strikeouts, earned her the first win of the 2024 season, while Brooke McCubbin sealed the victory with a three-inning save.
