The No. 21 Clemson Tigers Basketball squad (12-4, 2-3 ACC) defeated the Boston College Eagles (10-6, 1-4 ACC) by a score of 89-78 at Littlejohn Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers snapped their three-game losing streak and remain in contention for the top spots in the ACC with the bounce-back win against an extremely short-handed Boston College squad. The win also earns Clemson their second win in ACC play and is also their first win in 2024.
Getting the ball to your stars will give you better chances of winning, and that is exactly what head coach Brad Brownell and his squad did. Clemson center PJ Hall and guard Joseph Girard III were the major contributors to the victory. Girard scored a season-high 26 points while sinking five three-pointers on six attempts. The Syracuse transfer scored 17 of those 26 in the second half, which helped seal the win.
With Boston College center Quinten Post out due to stomach flu, Hall was able to dominate the post. Despite his three-point shooting woes over the last few games, the senior found a plethora of success in the post, using quick spin moves and jump hooks to score 26 points and pick up 11 rebounds.
The Tigers did not start the game hot, however. Early in the first half, Clemson missed their first five shots and were fighting an uphill battle as the Eagles took an early lead. Through scoring in transition and making key stops on defense, the Tigers were able to get the game back in their hands and they never looked back.
The play of the day came halfway through the first quarter, when a driving Josh Beadle sent Ian Schieffelin a behind-the-back pass, and the junior forward jammed it into the hoop to send the home crowd into a frenzy.
Clemson will be back in action on Tuesday night, where they will face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at home at 9 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on the ACC Network.
