Tis the season of giving. The Clemson men’s basketball team was generous on Friday night in a record-setting performance against Queens at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The Tigers jumped out to a big lead early and never relented, pouring out the points like a holiday egg nog en route to a 109-79 victory.
Clemson was hot from the start, and nobody was as warm as P.J. Hall who roasted the Queens defense for 20 first half points. He finished with a game-high 27 on a career-best 11 of 13 shooting. Clemson led 69-36 at the half, with those 69 points being the most scored in a half during Brad Brownell’s tenure at Clemson. It ties the program record also, first done in 1976 against Boston College.
The Tigers treated their fans all night and gave them much to cheer about from start to finish, wrapping up the night with several new program high water marks. The 109 points scored were the most scored in regulation by a Clemson team since the Tigers put 120 on Charleston Southern in 1993. It is also the most points scored by Clemson in any game since 2002, when they scored 118 against Wake Forest.
Ten different Tigers scored, with four tallying double-digits in points. Along with Hall’s 27, Joseph Girard and R.J. Godfrey poured in 19 apiece, and Chauncey Wiggins added 13. The Tigers knocked down 10 three-pointers.
B.J. McLaurin and A.J. McKee scored 18 each to lead Queens.
Clemson now enjoys a long break through Christmas. The Tigers will next take the court on December 29th when they take on Radford at Littlejohn Coliseum with tip-off that night scheduled for 7 p.m.
