In the most recent recruiting cycle, head coach Dabo Swinney will bring TJ Moore and Bryant Wesco to the squad for the fall season. With two highly-rated prospects set to join the Tigers this season, here is everything you need to know about the duo joining Tyler Grisham and his room.
Terrance “TJ” Moore
A four-star recruit, TJ Moore was the first out of the two who committed on the same day, when on Jun. 6, he decided to commit to the Tigers over teams such as Alabama, Florida State and Tennessee. Standing 6-foot-3.5 and 190 pounds, the Tampa, Florida, native will hope to boost the wide receiver room at Clemson that has rather been dormant as of late.
Immediately after watching Moore, there is one clear thing: he is a walking highlight reel. The incoming freshman has incredible amounts of one-handed catches on his highlight reel, making incredible plays out of slim chances. With those types of catches, he has incredible balance and remains on his feet after the catch, adding more yards to his plays. Moore is also very quick off the snap, being ahead of defenders instantly for his quarterback to find him. Even if he is closely defended, the new Tiger is able to use his hands to make remarkable catches from short amounts of separation.
I consider Moore as a deep-threat receiver and as somebody who can get the crowd going at Memorial Stadium. With his ability to make incredible catches in huge moments, he could become a fan-favorite instantly from the way that he plays. The numbers don’t lie as well, as he had over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns in his 2022 season.
Bryant Wesco
Six hours after Moore committed, five-star wideout Bryant Wesco committed shortly after, marking an incredible day for Clemson recruiting. Wesco is the No. 6 receiver from the recruiting class of 2024, choosing the Tigers over teams such as Tennessee, Texas, and USC.
Wesco plays a little bit different than Moore, but the Midlothian, Texas, native has an incredible skill set. He is able to gain separation late from his defenders, giving his quarterback a great option almost always. Perhaps the biggest advantage that Wesco has is his ability to gain more yards after the catch, as he is phenomenal at finding extra yards and being creative in the open field. As soon as he can find a runway, this receiver becomes extremely hard to bring down, as he is a built-up runner once he finds open space.
Bryant Wesco could be the safety valve early on in his career for Clemson, due to his ability to get open incredibly quickly, something that Clemson has liked to do in their passing game as of late. Having 58 catches in his junior season is a feat to know about as well, as well as adding 1,160 yards and 17 touchdowns. Look for Wesco to make an impact early, as he hopes to become another wide receiver to have untapped potential in Death Valley over his collegiate career.
Chase Byrd
Chase Byrd is a standout Wide Receiver from Greer, SC who has committed to play for Clemson starting in the fall of 2024. In his senior year at Greer High School, Chase recorded an impressive 43 receptions for 683 yards and an impressive 11 touchdowns. His talent as an athlete earned him recognition and all-state honors for 4A as well as 2-AAAA All-Region honors. He also helped his team bring home the Region 2-AAAA title and the No. 1 seed for the state playoffs. Along with his success on offense, Chase also contributed on defense with six tackles, three tackles for loss, and two interceptions in a single game. He was even selected to play in the Touchstone Energy Cooperative Bowl, which is a North/South All-Star Game. Chase was coached by Will Young, a former Clemson offensive lineman from 1992-95 who is also the uncle of another Class of 2024 addition, Watson Young. Although Chase may not be highly ranked according to ESPN or Rivals, his impressive statistics and skill on the field show that he is a player to keep an eye on in the future.
