Eddrick Houston, a five-star edge rusher in the 2024 recruiting class, is committed to Ohio State. That has not stopped Dabo Swinney and new defensive ends coach Chris Rumph from putting a full court press on Houston in an attempt to flip his commitment as the early signing period approaches.
Houston visited Clemson on Friday, and then made his way to Tuscaloosa for a visit with Alabama on Saturday. His eleventh-hour visits certainly do add some drama down the stretch of his recruitment, and Rumph’s hiring and NFL pedigree could certainly be appealing to an elite prospect like Houston.
At 6-foot-3 and weighing 265 pounds, Houston is ranked as the 26th overall prospect in the class of 2024 and the number five defensive line prospect in the 247 Sports composite rankings. He was offered by Clemson last year and most recently visited the Tigers in June prior to his last-minute trip this weekend.
Houston was not shy about sharing his thoughts on Clemson and how much the program and culture impresses him, telling On3’s Chad Simmons the following:
“I have visited Clemson four times now and I love the culture there. Clemson is just different from other schools.”
Eddrick Houston
By no means does Houston’s visit mean he will abandon his commitment to Ohio State, but he is an elite prospect. If the Tigers do flip him, Houston will be a plug and play type of recruit who can make an immediate impact on the Tigers’ defense. It warrants watching for further developments as we count down to signing day.
