Clemson Men’s Basketball Take Down TCU in Toronto

Another country? No problem. The number 24 ranked Clemson men’s basketball (9-0) team remained undefeated as they defeated TCU (7-1) 74-66 in the Hall of Fame Series in Toronto on Saturday evening.

Three Tigers scored in double figures, and Clemson used a strong second-half run to put away the Horned Frogs to run their season record to 9-0. After a back-and-forth first half that saw the Tigers take a slim 36-35 lead into the locker room, the Tigers jolted out of the gate in the second half, using a 21-7 run to build a 15-point lead and put the game away.

TCU closed the gap to six in the final minutes, but one more decisive run put the game out of reach for good.

“Yeah I think that was critical RJ was terrific today I thought his athleticism defensively was really good as he rebounded 10 rebounds,” said Brownell. “I thought he guarded a lot of their frontcourt athletes well and kept them from getting around a basket.”

The Tigers did struggle with turnovers in the early going, giving the ball away 10 times during the game’s first 11 minutes. Clemson only committed four turnovers the rest of the night. It was that ball security, coupled with clutch scoring from its stars, that helped Clemson remain the ACC’s lone unbeaten team.

Joseph Girard scored 21 to lead all scorers, while P.J. Hall and Ian Schieffelin added 17 and 14 points respectively. Clemson finished 19 of 24 from the free-throw line and knocked down seven three-pointers. Emanuel Miller scored 16 to pace TCU.

Speaking on how he tried to get open after his quick start. “Nothing much I mean we just know we just got to try and understand the offense and you know wait for your spots,” said Girard III. “I’m trying to provide some energy and the guys did a good job find me all day.”
