On Tuesday, two Clemson defenders entered the transfer portal.
Starting safety Andrew Mukuba, an All-Conference defender and former ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, announced his intention to transfer. A few hours later, freshman defensive end David Ojiegbe also entered his name into the portal marking two more Tigers who will no longer be part of the program.
Mukuba was perhaps the most surprising of the two. He has been among the Tigers’ best defenders in the secondary for each of his three seasons with the program. While he has battled injuries at times, when he is on the field, Mukuba is a game changer on the back end of the defense.
For his career, Andrew totaled 149 tackles (4.5 for loss), a sack, 20 pass break-ups, two fumble recoveries and an interception over 1,734 defensive snaps. He played in 35 games, starting 31 of them.
“It has truly been a blessing to be part of such a distinguished university, amazing fan base, and an athletic program that is second to none” wrote Mukuba in part. “I prayed that God would put me in a place that would give me everything that I have experienced here as a student-athlete, and for that, I am eternally grateful.”
Ojiegbe was a member of the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class. He redshirted during the 2023 season but played in two games logging snaps against Charleston Southern and Florida Atlantic. He totaled 11 snaps in those two contests. Mukuba and Ojiegbe become the eighth and ninth Clemson players to enter the transfer portal in the last week.
