Clemson offensive lineman Mitchell Mayes has entered the transfer portal, the school announced on Tuesday. Mayes was a starter for the Tigers for most of the season, but as the season progressed he slid down the depth chart behind others. Mayes will be a grad transfer.
Mitchell Mayes played high school football at Leesville Road (NC), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 229 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
“I want to start with thanking god because without him none of this would be possible,” Mayes said. “It was a blessing to be able to attend and graduate from Clemson University. I learned so much and met so many great people throughout my journey. I am thankful for my coaches, trainers, staff, teammates, and fans who have watched me and supported me these past four years.”

Mayes was a key part of the Clemson offensive line, playing in all 10 games this season. He was a starter in seven of those games and was a key part of the team’s success.
Mayes will now be looking to play his college football elsewhere, after spending time with the Clemson Tigers. He will have two years of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately.
With Mitchell Mayes entering the transfer portal, the Clemson Tigers will now be looking to fill the void left by the offensive lineman. It will be interesting to see where Mayes ends up and how he will fit into his new team.
