The Clemson Tigers and the Kennesaw State Owls faced off in a thrilling baseball game on Saturday, with the Tigers coming out on top with a final score of 15-5. The game saw both teams trading runs throughout the first half, but the Tigers were able to pull ahead in the fourth inning and maintain their lead until the end of the game.
The Tigers started the game with #25 Jackson Lindley on the mound, who was making his first start of the season. The game remained scoreless until the second inning when Zac Corbin doubled to start off the inning for the Owls. Jackson Chirello hit a double RBI to score Corbin, giving the Owls a 1-0 lead. Wade Richardson then hit a homer to right center to score Chirello, extending the Owl’s lead to 3-0.
The Tigers made a pitching change, bringing in Joe Allen to relieve Lindley. In the bottom half of the second, the Tigers were able to get on the board, with Blake Wright hitting a homer to right center to cut the Owls’ lead to 3-1. Ben Blackwell then reached on an error, and Jacob Jarrell laid down a sac bunt to move Blackwell to third base. Cam Cannarella then drew a walk, and Will Taylor followed suit, loading the bases for the Tigers. Caden Grice then drew a walk, scoring Blackwell and bringing the Tigers within one run of the Owls. The inning ended with the Tigers down 3-2.
In the top of the third, the Owls extended their lead with a homer by Spencer Hanson, making it 5-2. The Tigers quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, with Blackwell hitting a single and Jarrell hitting a 2-run homer to cut the Owls’ lead to 5-4.
The Tigers then tied the game in the fourth inning, with Blackwell scoring on an RBI walk. They took the lead shortly thereafter, with a passed ball scoring Riley Bertram, making the score 7-5 in favor of the Tigers. The Tigers continued to extend their lead in the fifth inning, with Grice drawing a walk to score Cannarella and make it 8-5. The Tigers then scored four more runs in the inning, with Blackwell hitting a single RBI to score Grice and Bertram, and Bertram hitting a single RBI to score Taylor. The inning ended with the Tigers up 12-5.
The Owls were unable to mount a comeback in the sixth inning, with the Tigers added 3 more runs and the game ended with a final score of 15-5 in favor of the Tigers.
