Hyatt’s Walk-Off Bunt Seals Win for Clemson Tigers

Victory Sealed With A Walk-Off Bunt?

The Clemson Tigers softball team put on an exciting display of athleticism on Friday evening, securing a nail-biting 3-2 win against the Pittsburgh Panthers at McWhorter Stadium. The victory was sealed by catcher JoJo Hyatt, who emerged as the hero of the game with a walk-off bunt that clinched the comeback victory for Clemson. With this win, Clemson improved its overall record to 42-5, with a 15-4 record in ACC play, while Pitt’s record fell to 21-20, with a 3-12 record in ACC action.

Clemson’s Offensive Numbers

Clemson’s offense accumulated nine hits throughout the game. Ally Miklesh led the charge with a 2-for-3 performance, one walk, and one run scored. McKenzie Clark and Valerie Cagle also contributed two hits each. Alia Logoleo, Maddie Moore, and Hyatt all added an RBI to the team’s tally.

What Happened?

The game got underway with Pittsburgh taking an early lead in the third inning after a solo home run to center field. However, the Tigers did not let this setback deter them. They bounced back in the bottom half of the inning when Clark and Miklesh started the inning with back-to-back singles. Clark then advanced to third on a flyout to right field, and Logoleo tied the game with a single down the right-field line.

Clemson had a chance to take the lead in the fourth inning, with Reedy Davenport hitting a double off the left-field wall, and Clark hitting a slow roller down the line. However, the Tigers were unable to capitalize on the opportunity, leaving the game tied at 1-1. Pittsburgh reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning with a double hit deep into left field to score a run and take a 2-1 lead.

The Tigers had another chance to even the score in the sixth inning, getting a runner to third base with one out. However, they were unable to bring her home, leaving the game poised for a dramatic finale. Clemson’s defense held strong in the top of the seventh, securing three quick outs, including two strikeouts from Cagle.

In the bottom of the seventh, Miklesh started the inning with a single to right field. Cagle followed with a hard-hit ball to Pitt’s third baseman, and Jacobsen loaded the bases with a walk. Moore brought in the tying run with a walk, setting the stage for Hyatt’s heroics. With one out and the bases loaded, Hyatt hit a slow rolling bunt down the third-base line, allowing Cagle to score the winning run.

Cagle also had an exceptional pitching performance, completing the game and striking out four batters. This was her 16th complete game of the year, improving her record to 21-3.
