The game started on a rainy day at McWhorter Stadium but eventually turned into a clear and cold night. The Tigers are looking to hold off Florida State after dropping both games in the doubleheader on Thursday losing 7-0 and 4-1.
Clemson held Florida State scoreless in the top of the 1st inning, and in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Mckenzie Clark scored the first run of the night for Clemson when Cagle reached on a fielding error.
In the top of the 2nd inning, Katie Dack singled through the right side, bringing Michaela Edenfield home to score the first run of the night for Florida State, tying the game at 1-1. Dack was later caught trying to steal.
During the top of the 3rd inning, there was a lengthy injury timeout when Devyn Flaherty was injured while sliding into second base. However, Clemson managed to get out of the inning with a strikeout from Valerie Cagle against Kalei Harding.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, Julia Bomhardt pinch ran for Caroline Jacobson, and later, a throwing error by Edenfield brought Bomhardt home, putting Clemson ahead 2-1.
During the top of the 5th inning, Amaya Ross flied out to right field, bringing Kaley Mudge home to tie the game at 2-2. Later in the same inning, a ball down the middle that appeared to be a strike was called a ball, resulting in Clemson’s pitcher coach, Kyle Jamieson, arguing with the umpire and getting ejected from the game. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Clemson left two runners stranded on base, leaving the score at 3-2 in favor of Florida State.
After the top of the 5th inning, the game turned into a pitching duel between the two teams’ pitchers. However, in the end, Clemson fell at home with a final score of 3-2, with Valerie Cagle allowing 3 hits, 3 runs, and 3 errors.
The Tigers will play again on Tuesday night at 6 pm, as they travel to Columbia to take on their in-state rival, South Carolina.
