It was a beautiful Wednesday afternoon as the Clemson Tigers took to the field for their latest practice session. The energy of the team’s offense matched the crispness in the air, and I had the opportunity to watch the first few periods of the practice. The early part of the session was dedicated to identifying which players were in yellow or green jerseys and who was back at practice. Notably, defensive end Justin Mascoll was in a green jersey, indicating his full participation in practice, while left guard Mitchell Mayes was in yellow with a brace on his left knee, indicating limited participation.
Several players were not dressed in full practice attire, with defensive lineman Tre Williams, cornerback Sheridan Jones, and safety Tyler Venables all looking on in street clothes. However, safety Sherrod Covil was back at practice after missing sometime earlier in the spring dealing with a personal matter. Mayes’ absence presented an opportunity for Harris Sewell, one of the freshmen, to take the first-team reps at left guard.
During the tempo drill, the first-team offense comprised several key players, including Brannon Spector, Cole Turner, and Antonio Williams at receiver, Jake Briningstool at tight end, and the O-line consisting of Tristan Leigh, Harris Sewell, Will Putnam, Trent Howard, and Blake Miller. Cade Klubnik quarterbacked the team, with Will Shipley serving as the running back. The tempo period, which previously involved offense on air, now involves the defense as well, leading to a more competitive session.
The practice also saw some impressive plays, with Cole Turner making a 50-50 jump ball catch on the sideline and Antonio Williams making a beautiful grab in the endzone.
