Clemson baseball star Caden Grice has been named ACC Co-Player-of-the-Week for the third time in his career, after a remarkable performance last week. The announcement was made on Monday by the league office.
Grice shared the honor with Georgia Tech’s Jake DeLeo, who was also named ACC Co-Player-of-the-Week, while Wake Forest’s Rhett Lowder received ACC Pitcher-of-the-Week honors. ACC baseball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel and are announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
This is not the first time that Grice has been recognized for his exceptional performance on the field. As a freshman in 2021, he received the ACC Player-of-the-Week honor twice. He is now the 15th Tiger in history to earn ACC weekly honors three times in a career. Moreover, Collegiate Baseball named him one of 11 national players of the week on Monday, marking the fourth week he was named a national player of the week during his career.
Grice’s performance last week was nothing short of impressive. He played as a two-way player and totaled four homers, 11 RBIs, five runs, and three walks in five games at the plate. In three games at Georgia Tech, he was 4-for-12 with three homers, eight RBIs, and four runs.
But it was his performance in Clemson’s 14-5 win on Sunday that truly set him apart. It was his first career road start on the mound, and he showed no signs of nervousness against the high-powered Yellow Jacket offense. He tied his career high with 5.0 innings pitched, allowing just three hits (all singles) and one run with six strikeouts to earn the win. In the same game, he went 2-for-4 with two homers, five RBIs, three runs and a walk.
Grice’s versatility and talent have been on full display throughout the season. He is hitting .309 with five homers, six doubles, 16 RBIs, 21 runs, a .383 on-base percentage and three steals in 21 games. On the mound, he is also 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA, .180 opponents’ batting average and 21 strikeouts in 14.0 innings pitched over four starts.
Clemson head coach Monte Lee spoke highly of Grice’s performance, saying, “He’s a special player, and he continues to show that he can do it all. He’s an elite hitter and a great pitcher, and he’s a leader on this team. I’m excited to see what he’ll do for the rest of the season.”
Grice’s outstanding performance has helped Clemson to a 16-5 record so far this season. With him leading the way, the Tigers will be a force to be reckoned with as they continue their campaign.
In conclusion, Caden Grice’s performance on the field has once again earned him the recognition he deserves. He has proven himself to be a talented player with remarkable versatility, and his performance last week was a testament to that. As the season progresses, fans will undoubtedly be eager to see what Grice will do next, and how he will continue to help the Tigers succeed.
