Georgia Tech put on a dominant performance in Atlanta on Saturday night, as they secured a 16-3 victory over the Clemson Tigers. Despite Benjamin Blackwell’s solo home run in the second inning and Caden Grice’s two-run homer in the top of the third, it was all Yellow Jackets for the rest of the game.
The game started off with Jake Deleo hitting a home run in the first inning, which was followed by four more runs in the same inning. Georgia Tech then scored two more runs in the bottom of the second. In the top of the third, Clemson managed to score, but Georgia Tech quickly responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Jack Rubenstein and Jake DeLeo hit home runs, and they added another run in the fourth inning.
Georgia Tech continued to dominate in the fifth inning, scoring four runs, including Drew Compton’s three-run homer. They added two more runs in the sixth inning, securing their victory. Luke Schmolke, the Yellow Jackets’ starter, pitched 5.0 innings and allowed six hits, three runs, and three walks with five strikeouts. He earned the win, while Tristan Smith, the Tiger’s starter, suffered the loss.
The series will conclude on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. Georgia Tech will be looking to sweep the series, while Clemson will be hoping to avoid a sweep. Georgia Tech’s strong performance in Saturday’s game will give them confidence heading into the final game of the series. Clemson will need to regroup and put on a strong performance if they hope to avoid the sweep.
