Clemson baseball continued its winning ways on Wednesday night with a 6-2 victory over Kennesaw State at Stillwell Stadium. The Tigers improved to 14-8 on the season and took a 1-0 lead in the season series against the Owls, who dropped to 8-11.
The game was tied at 2-2 heading into the eighth inning, but the Tigers exploded for four runs to take control. Cooper Ingle led off the inning with a single, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. Then, Riley Bertram stepped up to the plate and delivered a clutch two-run single to give Clemson a 4-2 lead. Jacob Jarrell followed with a suicide squeeze bunt that dropped for a single, allowing two more runs to score.
Reed Garris earned the win in relief for the Tigers by pitching 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Starter Joe Allen pitched effectively, allowing two runs in six innings with five strikeouts. On the other side, Brayden Eidson suffered the loss for the Owls, allowing two runs (one earned) in six innings pitched in relief.
Chad Fairey got the scoring started for the Tigers in the second inning with a sacrifice fly that scored the game’s first run. The Owls responded in the third inning with a solo homer by Eidson to tie the score. Chris Cole’s sacrifice fly in the fourth inning gave Kennesaw State a 2-1 lead, but the Tigers tied it up in the fifth inning with a double-play grounder.
The Tigers will now turn their attention to a three-game series against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
