As I stood on the sidelines of Doug Kingsmore Stadium, I couldn’t help but feel the energy and excitement of the doubleheader between the Clemson Tigers and Georgia State. After Sunday’s rainout, the two teams decided to play two games in one day, and what a day it was.
In the first game, the Tigers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring five runs in the third inning and five runs in the sixth inning to secure a 10-2 victory over the Panthers. Nathan Hall’s three-run homer and Billy Amick’s two-run triple were just a few of the highlights from the impressive offensive display.
On the defensive side, the Tigers’ pitching staff was dominant, limiting Georgia State to only two hits in the game. Reed Garris earned his first career win, while Joe Allen recorded his first career save.
In the second game, the Tigers picked up right where they left off, scoring in six of the first seven innings on their way to a 10-7 victory. Will Taylor’s two-run homer in the first inning set the tone for the game, and Cooper Ingle extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a run-scoring single in the second inning.
Luke Boynton and Colin Hynek’s back-to-back homers in the fourth inning provided a moment of hope for the Panthers, but it was short-lived as the Tigers answered back with two-out, run-scoring singles from Caden Grice and Dylan Brewer.
Nick Clayton earned the win in relief for the Tigers, while Ryan Watson suffered the loss for the Panthers.
With the doubleheader sweep, the Tigers improved their record to 10-6 and secured their fifth win in a row. They will look to continue their momentum when they host College of Charleston on Tuesday. It was a beautiful day for baseball indeed, and the Clemson Tigers certainly made the most of it.
