On the third day of Clemson’s spring football practice, the media was granted access to witness the team’s progress for the first 5 periods. We focused more on the defense. The practice consisted mainly of drills, with the defense donning full pads for the first time this season. The focus was on technique and light contact drills.
One standout performer was a freshman defensive lineman, Peter Woods who continued to impress with his skills on the field. With such early promise, it’s clear that this young player has a bright future as a Clemson Tiger.
One notable observation was the upgrade in jersey status for graduate senior defensive end Justin Mascoll. After wearing a yellow (non-contact) jersey on Tuesday due to an ankle sprain, Mascoll was seen sporting a green (limited) jersey on Wednesday. DeMonte Capehart was back at practice today after missing the first two days.
Despite the drills and rotations being familiar, there was a noticeable difference in the energy and motivation of the Clemson football team’s defense on the third day of spring practice. There were talented players stepping up and taking charge, with emerging leaders Barrett Carter and Jeremiah Trotter making their presence known on the defensive side of the ball.
Adding to the excitement of the day was the presence of two former Clemson players, Bryan Breese and KJ Henry, who were on hand to watch their former teammates as they prepare for the upcoming NFL draft. It’s always great to see former players supporting their alma mater, and their presence likely boosted the morale of the team.
While it’s still early in the spring season, these observations provide a glimpse of what’s to come for Clemson football. Fans can look forward to seeing more promising performances from young players and continued support from former Tigers.
