Tampa, FL- The Clemson Tigers continue to make noise in the world of college softball, now ranked fifth in the nation with a record of 15-1. This past weekend, the Tigers participated in the USF Tournament, winning both games in impressive fashion. In their second game, the Tigers took down Michigan State in a dominant 8-0 victory.
Clemson’s Dominant Victory Over Michigan State:
The Tigers’ victory over Michigan State was a testament to their all-around ability on both offense and defense. The game was cut short by the run-rule after five innings due to Clemson’s dominant performance. The Tigers’ offense was fueled by nine hits, with two hits apiece coming from McKenzie Clark and Valerie Cagle. Clark and Maddie Moore also each scored twice in the game. The Tigers’ defense was equally impressive, holding Michigan State to only two hits and no runs scored.
Offensive Explosion in the Fourth Inning:
The fourth inning was where the Tigers really shined, with a flurry of offensive activity resulting in five runs scored. Clark led off the inning with a single, followed by Moore drawing a walk. Cagle then hit a triple to left-center field, driving in two runs. The Tigers went on to load the bases once again, and pinch hitter Kyah Keller hit a single back up the middle to drive in two more runs, extending Clemson’s lead to 8-0.
Shutout Pitching Performance by Millie Thompson:
Junior pitcher Millie Thompson had an outstanding performance on the mound for the Tigers, earning her third complete game of the season and her second solo shutout. She faced only 17 batters in five innings of work, striking out six while not giving up a walk, and allowing only two hits.
Looking Ahead to the Next Game:
The Tigers will be back in action this Wednesday, March 1st, with a midweek doubleheader against Gardner-Webb at McWhorter Stadium. After such a dominant victory over Michigan State, the Tigers will look to keep their momentum going and continue their winning ways.
