Game 1 of the series between Clemson and UCF was plagued with multiple rain delays, causing frustration for both the players and the spectators. The first rain delay occurred just over an hour after the start time of 4:02 pm, at 5:24 pm. Although the game resumed after a 76-minute delay at 6:40 pm, it was interrupted once again by a second rain delay at 7:59 pm. The first game of the three-game series had made it through only the first 8 1/2 innings before the umpire called it.
In the second inning of the game, the Knights managed to score 2 runs through a double RBI and loaded the bases on a balk before walking in the second run. In response, Clemson managed to score a run in the bottom of the 3rd through a sequence that involved Wright doubling down the 3rd base line, Cannarella singling to second base, and Wright stealing home during Blackwell’s at-bat. However, the pace of the game slowed down significantly as both teams failed to score in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings.
Ryan Ammons emerged as the star player for Clemson during the game, putting up an impressive stat line of 5.0 innings pitched, 3 hits, 2 runs (2 earned), 3 walks, and a whopping 10 strikeouts. The young athlete’s performance was nothing short of remarkable, showcasing his undeniable talent and skill on the field.
UCF had managed to get two runners on 1st and 2nd base before the second rain delay at 7:59 pm. The 9th inning will resume at 1 pm on Saturday, with the second game of the series beginning 40 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
