The weather was perfect for softball, and the Clemson Tigers secured a win against the Georgia Bulldogs in a match held on Tuesday evening at McWhorter Stadium. The fifth-ranked Clemson team put on an impressive performance against the sixteenth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
Valerie Cagle’s impressive performance helped fifth-ranked Clemson secure a 7-1 win.
It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Bulldogs got their first hit of the game, with Jayda Kearney leading off with an infield single. After two more singles, Georgia had the bases loaded with no outs. Despite the pressure, Valerie Cagle managed to secure a pop-out in foul territory for the first out. However, Ellie Armistead’s speedy run to first base allowed Kearney to score from third, reducing Clemson’s lead to 5-1 in the middle of the fifth inning.
Cagle pitched the entire game, allowing only one run and four hits while striking out four and walking none. Her record for the season is now 6-0.
The Tigers have a busy schedule ahead of them, with five games in four days at the USF Tournament in Tampa, Florida. On Thursday, they will face the host team, UCF, followed by the University of Illinois-Chicago on Friday. They will then take on Michigan State and Tennessee on Saturday before finishing the weekend with another game against Michigan State on Sunday.
