It was a beautiful day for baseball at Doug Kingsmore Stadium as the Clemson Tigers faced off against the Charlotte 49ers on Tuesday, February 21st. The game was highly anticipated by fans of both teams, and it did not disappoint. Here’s a full recap of what went down on the field.
The Charlotte 49ers scored first on a single by first baseman Brandon Stahlman in the 2nd inning and then added to their lead in the 3rd inning with a home run by KNIGHT. The Tigers were slow to start but finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th inning when Blake Wright hit a double to right center, followed by a single from Cam Cannarella that advanced Wright to third. Chad Fairey then reached on a fielder’s choice to score Wright. By the end of the fourth inning, Clemson had taken a 4-2 lead.
However, the 49ers were not out of the game yet, as they took the lead one more time to go up 5-4. Clemson responded in the bottom of the 6th inning when Cam Cannarella stole second and Benjamin Blackwell singled to right to score Cannarella. Clemson then scored four more runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to secure their win over the Charlotte 49ers, with a final score of 9-5.
While the Tigers had an all-around great game, two players stood out in particular. Centerfielder Cam Cannarella went 2-4 with a single, run scored, and stolen base, while shortstop Benjamin Blackwell hit a single and a triple, and stole two bases.
Overall, it was an exciting game that showcased the talent of both teams. Clemson came out on top, but the Charlotte 49ers put up a good fight until the end.
